Unexpected guest

Jigging can be a very fun experience and bring you many surprises. We encounter 1 such experience last Saturday at PD. Waves was horrible it was anywhere between 1-1.5m waves. We tried many spots through out the day and our Tekong namely Apek told us that the wind was not giving us any chance of fishing properly. 80g jig was the minimum requirement and i even went up to 150g. I have tried 75g slow cranky but the more I jig the further it went.

Luckily, we manage to salvage a couple. My friend Michael had a table size grouper to bring home. Apek manage to land a very nice size triple tail for good eating and i manage to land a very unexpected fish.. A puffer fish and it’s a big boy… we estimated it to be at least 3.0 kg but some say more.

We took the photo as quickly as possible and release it back to the water. It was great fun.

The 20lbs Seaknight Tri-Poseidon X4 braid was hardly tested while lugging this lunker from a depth of 40m.

Tackle used:

Penn Battle BTL4000

Rodford Sinister Ebek Special PE 1-2

Seaknight Tri-poseidon X4 20lbs

RodFord Volatile slow jig 150g

Field test review

This morning, we took a quick drive to our usual snakehead aka channa striata ground to check out the population.

I took my Shimano Rarenium spool it up with 15lbs Seaknight Tri-Poseidon braided and paired it with a RodFord Sinister ebek special rod.

There were 4 of us but unfortunately the fish are not interested to bite.

I personally have tried everything from live frogs to berkeley powerbait… And i even had a go with the mini rapala which weighs only 4g. It cast like a charm. The soft and supple braided line has “zero” memory.

Another point to note, the place where we fished is snaggy… A lot of bottom structures. The braid looks as good as new. The knot strength is also very good.

I usually like to join my braided line to either mono or fluorocarbon leaders. I personally like to use blood knot to join them. Throught out the morning fishing, the knot stayed firm and even after loosing a few soft plastics to snags, i had little problem on the joining knot.

Looking forward to another outing and hopefully some fish pics as well.
